a search of synaptic does not turn up any packages at all for vmware. What am I missing? is this in a special repo somewhere? a search of the docs gave lots of mostly out of date/obsolete instructions for installing vmware by hand. But I did not recall seeing anything about a package.
Note that when doing a manual install it is necessary to copy a couple of library files and rename them due to version mismatches.
