I was also getting a text-deletion problem, but only with Qt4 apps. I reported it to KDE (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167982), and then realised that it was caused by a problem with scim-bridge.
When I reconfigured scim-bridge, both problems disappeared.
