Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org
The BIRT "save as Excel" feature actually produces the Excel 2003 XML format. When that file is on the disk with a ".xls" extension and I try to open it, either through the "file-open" dialog-box or from the command-line with "oocalc filename.xls", the text-import wizard (for CSV or fixed-width columns) appears. When the file is on disk with a ".xml" extension, OO opens it as a spreadsheet. Ubuntu version...
