Michael,
What I found was that the default number of IDE controllers in the
kernel config has been changed to 4 - in my setup I have 4 controllers
on the HPT374 card and 2 on the motherboard (as well as 2 SATA
controllers on the motherboard) I recompiled the kernel with the number
of IDE controllers set to 8 and everything worked.
However, at the moment I am reconfiguring my various computers and on
this one decided to do a clean install, one problem I've encountered is
that when I boot from the AM64 alternate cdrom 8,04,1 that it starts Ok
but then when it comes to detecting the cdrom, even though it booted
from the cdrom it can't find it. It seems that what is happening is that
the system assigns the 4 IDE controllers to the HPT374 card and then has
no channels left to assign to the mother board (to which the cdrom is
attached)
Hope this helps,
Peter
