I am not able to reproduce this bug today. The mouse now works correctly with both the install and the live-CD (try without install) options. If I cannot find a way to reproduce this problem reliably, then I suggest that we close this.
In attempting to reproduce this bug today, I also tried the 386 version. I got the following (different) error repeatedly when attempting the live-CD function about half a dozen times. apic=debug didn't help. noapic allowed it to start OK. I don't know if it has any bearing on the mouse problem. I don't get this with the x64 version. To be clear, this isn't the same problem, but I am mentioning it here in case it provides some clue. "[ 0.116007] ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC [ 0.116007] Kernel panic - not syncing: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with apic=debug and send a report. Then try booting with the 'noapic' option" Is it possible that when booting from the CD, the system looks at what is on the hard drive and makes a decision based on what it saw there? The hard drive I did my original testing on (when the mouse wasn't working) had a Linux installation that was not compatible with the current hardware. Now that I have installed successfully, what is on the hard drive is compatible. I don't think I have a way of reproducing that previous condition, so I can't actually test the exact situation I had before. This theory though sounds a bit like grasping at straws, since the CD *shouldn't* depend on the hard drive. I don't have an explanation though of why I can't reproduce the mouse problem now. Unless you have anything you would like me to try, then I would suggest that we close this bug as unreproducible. If I can find a way to reproduce it again later, then I will open a new bug. -- Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha 3 Installer - Mouse does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254430 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
