UNRELATED: The first time I installed Ubuntu 6.10, it failed to launch the Xserver upon restart and left me in a terminal session. I thought it may have been because I was browsing the web, playing movies, viewing pictures etc. while it was installing. Now, after reinstalling and not doing anything in the background, it works fine.
