Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: parted

ubuntu-vm-builder (and the next generation VMBuilder) fails with the new
parted for two reasons. This bug is about the second.

Parted fails when trying to tell the kernel to reread the partition
table of e.g. a loopback device. The only way to detect if this is the
cause of parted returning a non-zero exit code seems to be to read the
actual error message, which of course is subject to change (especially
since it might be localised). It would be nice if there were an option
to tell parted to not attempt to reread the partition table, just treat
it as a warning, or perhaps even be intelligent about it and not try for
certain things like loopback devices, disk images, etc.

** Affects: parted (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
