Tim Gardner's link was a little bit confusing, but I found a package called linux-image-2.6.24-21-generic_2.6.24-21.41ubuntu1_i386.deb and uname -r states 2.6.24-21-generic, too, so that one boots fine on the old P3 Coppermine...
