I am having this problem as well - same Ubuntu version, OpenOffice 2.4.1. Interestingly, the problem only occurs on one of my user accounts.
Basically OpenOffice is almost impossible to use it is so slow. Resizing the window results in the virtually the entire window being redrawn before my eyes, one toolbar icon at a time, taking about 5-10 seconds. The same thing happens if I switch focus to another window and come back. I have tried upping memory allocation for the application to no avail. Using default Human theme. Please help!
