Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

When thunderbird is trying to receive mail while my internet connection is
disconnected (I am behind a vpn which disconnects me from time to time) it
takes some time (more than a minute) before this times out (then thunderbird
will tell me that the server is not reachable). This is unavoidable but what
makes it annoying is that I can't force it to retry after I have reconnected to
the internet.
Pressing the stop-button has no effect, neither does the "get mail" button. So
I have to wait five minutes or more for thunderbird to time out before I can
check my mail again.
Why can't I reset the connection to the server?
