The bug reporter refuses to send along the dump until I update x11-common, but as noted earlier, I am deathly afraid to do that at present, as I can't be off the air for even more days...
I updated all the other libraries that the bug reporter complained about, then rebooted, but I get the same segfault. I'll eventually upgrade the rest of the bits, and when I get the system uncrippled again, I'll have another go at this.
