This also affects kazehakase and I expect all other ruby-gnome2 applications. I just committed a patched version of 0.17.0~rc1 (0.17.0~rc1-1ubuntu1) which should solve this problem. Please test and report here if it fails to fix this issue for you. The issue has also has been submitted upstream:
