According to your Xorg.0.log -intel driver has found a backlight control. Could you please post the output of >>ls -l /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0<<. You could also try to remove the backlight module. Change to console (ctrl + alt + f1) while gdm is running and remove the module with >>rmmod backlight<<. Maybe you have to remove a dependent module before. Afterwards restart GDM and login. Of course everything with the standard xorg.conf.
