Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

lsb_release -d => Ubuntu 8.04.1
KDE 3.5.9

This bug relates to

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/122064
[Wishlist] Removing software+dependencies in Synaptic is currently more
difficult than installing them

but goes one step further.

When installing a package, conflicts may occur, requiring previously installed
packages to be removed.
In my case I was trying out splashy (for uswsusp) and it conflicted with
kubuntu-artwork-usplash and usplash, requiring their removal.

When I (eventually) found out it didn't offer a solution to me not being
able to hibernate I removed it.

It would certainly help users if [synaptic / underlying packaging
system] had remembered the conflicting packages and offered to re-
install them.

** Affects: synaptic (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
