Big apologies, I don't remember ever messing with gconf but when you said that there is an overburn option I had a peek and it was enabled. I must have done it by accident at some point and never noticed as being as I had never tried to burn an oversized image until now. Now that I have disabled it everything works as you described it. Perhaps there should be a confirmation dialogue for overburn as well as the gconf option to remind people that it is set? In any case, I am sorry for wasting your time.
