Extra Info: Although the mouse pointer moves around the (virtual) screen normally, it appears that the mouse coordinates being reported by X are always in the bottom right corner of the screen (where the trash-can is located).
This is evidenced by the fact that the tool-tip "No items in the Deleted Items folder" is permanently visible, irrespective of how the mouse/pointer is moved.
