It will probably be the same with the "intel" driver since it has
basically the same code for pre-830 cards, so it's doubtful that would
be a viable path to troubleshoot.
I gather you did not have time last month to do additional
troubleshooting, so am going to close out this bug. But please feel
free to reopen if you'd like to continue troubleshooting.
Unfortunately, upstream no longer supports i81x cards in -intel, so
troubleshooting this to a solution could be quite challenging.
