I can confirm that the problem was still there as of last night.  With a
fully updated Hardy x86, I plugged a USB pen drive with a LUKS
partition.  The partition appeared in the Nautilus sidebar as "1.9 GB
Encrypted Partition" or something to that effect.  Clicking it caused
the prompt for the password to appear.  Entering the password caused the
partition to be connected (it got an entry under /dev/mapper) but the
icon for it in Nautilus simply vanished.
I suspect that the fix may have gone into Debian but has not been picked
up by Ubuntu yet.
