I managed to isolate the source of the bug.

Apparently something goes horribly wrong in ndiswrapper as soon as I
unplug the stick.

If I rmmod ndiswrapper before unplugging the stick everything works just
fine.

After replugging the stick and modprobing ndiswrapper I am able to
resume working with the wlan0 interface.
