I really don't understand why this issue has not received more attention from other users. This bug seriously degrades the usefulness of autofs on Hardy. Maybe not many people use autofs?
To make sure I didn't have some particular problem with the computer I found the problem with, I installed Hardy on another machine that I was still running on Gutsy and found exactly the same issue. Surely the one of the big advantages of autofs is to be able to automount shares that are not always available, so if it chokes the system when it the server is not available, it's not much use. I hope someone else can share some experience on this problem.
