Thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. I am guessing you meant IMAP instead of MAPI, am I correct? If so, then this is expected: when you are deleting an IMAP mail, the delete command is sent to GMAIL, and it is GMAIL that deletes it. Immediately. Evolution has no control over it. I would expect, though, that the deleted email would still be available on GMAIL's deleted folder.
