Martin from the points above I do not think that there is any strict
kernel issue here and the bug can be set to invalid. In particular

1) nothing to do kernel-wise only involves switching to ntfs-3g syncio
2) is a separate issue: dm-loop in Intrepid (to be tested and used by wubi). We 
might want to open a separate bug report
3) I guess we will keep "-o syncio" for the time being
4) already in separate bugs #201750 and #186117
5) to be tested after ntfs-3g and dm-loop and in any case will probably be a 
sysvinit umountroot issue
