Public bug reported: Binary package hint: memtest86+
Seems memtest86+ is broken in intrepid. (2.01-1ubuntu1), as it gives screenfulls of errors instantly, but the old memtest86 image (copied from a 1.70 on a hardy-heron) works fine. I did an apt-get --reinstall install memtest86+ -- and the md5sum of the binary image in /boot remained unchanged. It looks like it isn't accounting for its own memory space properly -- all the errors reported were at real low addresses; probably where memtest itself lives. This machine has an AGP video card, so there shouldn't be any stolen memory associated with onboard video. It has an intel 82845 (Brookdale) chipset and PC-133 SDRAM. Happens even with only 1 stick of 128MB installed. For what it is worth, I tried pulling and swapping memory to no avail -- then eventually it dawned on me that the test itself was suspect, since I'd not ever used it before in intrepid. Figured it was worth reporting before someone else suffered the same. ** Affects: memtest86+ (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [intrepid] memtest86+ broken on IBM NetVista https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/246412 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
