Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpid

This started happening after I upgraded my laptop to
1.0.4-5ubuntu9/hardy, it was working on the prior release I had.

Problem is that acpid randomly stops getting acpi events from the
laptop. What happens is that eventually I would close my lid, and the
laptop would not go to sleep. After I re-opened the lid, if I restarted
apcid, then it would go to sleep as many times as it missed lid events.

I have currently successfully worked around the problem with:
1 * * * * root find /var/log -mmin -240 -name acpid | grep -q acpid ||
/etc/init.d/acpid restart

The problem is somewhat serious since the laptop not going to sleep when
the lid is closed and thrown in a backpack not only kills the battery,
but can also severely heat up the laptop depending on what thermal
protection it has.

If I can gather some info on the stuck acpid before I restart it, let me
know.

** Affects: acpid (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
