Looks like another "shutdown no powerdown" problem in Generics 7 & 8!!
Version 6.10 worked ok !!!

The problem: At the shutdown menu:
            Restart works fine (re-boots)
Shutdown closes th system (halt with spash still on screen , must
use hard POWER button)
Suspend blanks the screen, must Button power off & re-boot to get
back.

I tried the "acpi=force apm=power_off" suggestion by gedit of grub in
/root , NG

My own thoughts on the problem is in the /boot image files or the INIT files
that have a
mis-typed default setting in acpi sections, since "grub" commands don't seem to
work.
(do grub commands really change the "image file" defaults or just "running
image" ??)

My system is Ubuntu 8.10 (updated from 7.04)
on Dell 1503 dual proccesser hardware, with Windows Vesta as the primary
environment.
