Hardy i386 -generic and -386 flavours do not have HIGHMEM support
enabled since it also requires PAE, a feature of the CPU that is not
implemented on many 586 class processors (some VIA cpus for example).
Intrepid has the same issue. The only way to gain HIGHMEM support is to
either run the i386 -server flavour, or run any of the amd64 flavours.
Any Intel CPU that supports PAE will run the amd64 flavour in native 64
bit mode.
