@NJ probably not into Hardy (since it has for some the noloop=1 workaround). I am trying to get this quirk into upstream and by that maybe into Intrepid. Tests by you will only make sense at this stage, if your touchpad is found when using the i8042.noloop=1 option at boot. In that case post your dmidecode data (and maybe the human understandable model/manufacturer which medion for some reason does not like to reveal) and I would forward both entries to upstream.
