Thanks for reporting this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better.

adept is called via the kdesudo and therefore does not ask for a root
password but your user password that would authenticate you against the
sudoers list.

Could you please give us the exact commands you give when you are able
to use your password in commandline. (Obviously please do *not* paste
your password here, only the commands you use on the commandline
terminal)
