FYI, the same is for basename utility, I reported the issue and sent a patch with fix to upstream. Will be part of next upstream release of coreutils. You can find the patch with names at http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-coreutils/2008-06/msg00229.html if you want to change the name in Ubuntu distribution before next release.
