Bryce: I finally found time to test. I tested again with freshly installed, and upgraded, hardy, and with intrepid. The bug and the symptoms remain. In intrepid, the GUI configuration tool for screens is not working anymore and does not detects displays.
Now I built git version of the drivers, and installed it.
