I'm also having the same issues. I also noticed that doing:
$ killall gnome-volume-manager
Alt+F2 /usr/lib/gnome-volume-manager/gnome-volume-manager
Will allow you to mount the usb device correctly 1x, successive mounts after 
dismounting fail unless you 'restart' gvm.
I can attach logs on request, just tell me what you need.
I'm running Ubuntu Hardy kernel 2.6.24-19-generic, fully updated.

I like my encrypted usb stick, I hope this bug gets fixed soon...
