I have the same problem, and I found a way to reproduce it reliably (since it does not always occur). If I just type into a new window, everything is fine. But if I rescale the window or activate another window and re-activate the evolution window, the effect occurs immediately. Since this does never happen e.g. with gedit, I am quite sure, that it is a true bug in evolution and NOT a "video issue".
