I'm having the same issue pointed to in the thread mentioned above:

It seems that this was fixed in kernel version 2.6.25.  Would it be possible to 
backport this to ubuntu kernels?  It's basically impossible to use XFS on SW 
raid without it:

At least, it's impossible when dealing with multi terabyte raid5 arrays,
which I don't think are particularly uncommon at this point.
