"Our" (as in Debian Open MPI maintainers in discussion with upstream) consensus was that it is still preferable to have the 'meep' rather than to disable IB for those who actually have the hardware. Luckily that is all somewhat moot now as the code will behave better going forward and deal with this autoMAGICally.
