"2) I am not sure why you choose to use the same domain as your ISP. That will just lead to problems, since your computers are not likely part of their DNS server. This might lead to IP packages not delivered correctly back, therefore to the hanging you experience."
You're right: that is the first part of this bug, which is definitely a user error. I fixed it and then the second part of this bug can't appear. So I don't thinkg 1) through 4) is usefull, though I can attach those if you really want too. The second part of this bug is an issue however: The install/remove programs just hangs when the domain name has been misconfigured, instead of giving a clear error message that the network configuration is bad, like apt-get does. I had no clue that install/remove programs hung because of a network configuration issue, I figured ubuntu was just acting up: I was actually thinking of formatting my hard drive :) (And there are dutch forum posts of dummy users who actually did - it doesn't say if they choose ubuntu again) Thanks for looking into this :) -- Install/remove programs always hangs after changing network domain name (hardy) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/238312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
