You're right: that is the first part of this bug, which is definitely a user 
error. I fixed it and then the second part of this bug can't appear.
So I don't thinkg 1) through 4) is usefull, though I can attach those if you 
really want too.

The second part of this bug is an issue however: The install/remove
programs just hangs when the domain name has been misconfigured, instead
of giving a clear error message that the network configuration is bad,
like apt-get does. I had no clue that install/remove programs hung
because of a network configuration issue, I figured ubuntu was just
acting up: I was actually thinking of formatting my hard drive :) (And
there are dutch forum posts of dummy users who actually did - it doesn't
say if they choose ubuntu again)
