With Hardy Heron on a Dell Vostro 1400, Load_Cycle_Count was increasing
2-5 times per minute with AC and battery. Setting
ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE=true in /etc/default/acpi-support fixed that problem.
/proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode was set to 2 prior to that. With the change,
among other things the APM level for the disk (valued used for hdparm
-B) is set to 1 on battery and 254 on AC. I am still watching the temp
on AC to determine if 254 is OK. Priot to setting
ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE=true, I manually changed the APM level to 1 and 127,
but that did not solve the problem.
