In the US this is about to change. The US department of Education wants all educational facilities switched over to Edubuntu by 2010. In my school, we've already started using Open Office and Firefox to prepare us for the switch. When I heard this on NPR (National Public Radio), I was completely overjoyed with the feeling of accomplishment.
