Running Hardy Heron I downloaded the most recent source of mail-notification from: http://www.nongnu.org/mailnotify/ And followed the Readme to install and it works fine with ssl/tls notification. I'm very happy.
Being relatively new to compiling, I cheated a bit before I installed by running sudo apt-get build-dep mail-notification from the terminal. This installed the dependencies and the compliers (true?) so I could build and install mail-notification. Had I not run apt-get build-dep mail-notification, how would I have known what compilers and dependencies were needed to build and install?
