Ubuntu 8.04 with Nautilus 2.22.3 I can reproduce this bug, too. When you open nautilus with root permissions (gksu) and click on the Trash icon, the system becomes unresponsive with a memory leak until the point of hard freeze. It is near impossible to generate a bug report, because there is no visible crash.
