I can also confirm this bug.

I am using a Thinkpad T30, and when upgrading to hardy this bit me hard
and it took some debugging to realize that the kernel was causing the
trouble. When the boot process hung, I pressed ctrl-alt-delete, and the
system resumed, but in a very strange way. Almost no hardware worked
when gnome finally came up and I got really confused. The last month I
have had to delete any incoming 2.4.24 kernels from grub and only boot
the .22 version, otherwise the system would be completely b0rked.

I would like to help, but don't know where to start. This _is_ a serious
bug for T30 owners, and users that are less computer-savvy than me would
probably be way frustrated.
