I never used nautilus. I installed it to see if it would deal with my ftp places in the Places menu and, since I hadn't used it before, nothing came up (even trying to import an unknown name from an unknown folder...). I was back to square one. It took hours but I found the non- nautilus solution.
Places -> Network -> Bookmarks -> Edit Bookmarks -> (select the appropriate one) -> Remove worked great.
