I suspect this is normal behavior - my Lenovo 3000N200 laptop touchpad generates about 4 times as many interrupts a my USB mouse - i suspect the touchpad is a far more sensitive device that generates (X,Y) co- ordinates rather than a mouses (probably less accurate) (dX,dY) co- ordinate deltas.
