I also have this problem on a Dell Inspiron 9300. It has the ATI Mobility Radeon X300 graphics card. Obviously on a laptop there is no choice when it comes to trying an alternative graphics card! I have also tried the 2.6.24-18-xen kernel, but this doesn't seem to make any difference. In a last-ditch effort I even tried going back to the xorg driver instead of fglrx, but this made no difference.
