I can't reproduce it with your package and my package. All are fine. I made one with datadir forced to /usr/share and with the icon cache update. You can try it in my PPA. IMO, it's a problem on your system, or it's the awn-manager icon not properly update on the system. If you can find someone with the same error with my last debs, I'll search more about this issue.
