Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

! This is NOT a repititon or duplicate of the "Trash doesn't start /
disappears" bugs 211604 or 195915 !

I use Ubuntu Hardy with the latest proposed updates. My Trash Applet
version is 2.22.2.

A couple of days ago my trash icon from the panel went missing so I
tried re-adding it but apparently to no avail. Today I realized that I
had 3-5 trash applets running since they all added correctly. My problem
is that the trash icon in the panel doesn't render an icon at all. The
applet loads and works as expected but is practically invisible to the
user because it is rendered with approx. 1px width and no icon. I just
found out that it was there by randomly clicking on the edges of my
panel. I can access the context menu and even the trash folder itself by
clicking "on" that invisible area. I can add multiple trash icons and
they are all invisible but there. I don't know what's wrong this
behavior shows with all icon themes I've tried so far (Human, Gion) and
for all panel sizes.

gnome-applets 2.22.2-0ubuntu1

Reproducible: always

Steps:
1. Open "Add to Panel"
2. Select "Trash"
3. Click "Add"
4. Look for added padding space on the edge of the panel
5. Right-Click padding space
6. Select "Empty Trash" or other

Actual results:
Adds trashcan to the panel that doesn't render an icon and thus is invisible

Expected results:
Adds a usable visible trashcan to the panel

** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
