More info: I noticed that it is possible to recover by selecting e.g. "skip forward", "skip backward", "next chapter/movie" or "previous chapter/movie" option when the movie is frozen. The movie will restart, but is playable again. Even "skip to" is usable and it can actually be used as a workaround when the freezing happens as it allows continuing from the same location.
Status for this bug is "incomplete", but I don't know how I could gather more info.
