Jon, your output suggests that you have '/dev/pilot' configured as your device name in gnome-pilot, but that that device does not exist during the sync attempt. Is this the device name you use with pilot-xfer? If not, configure gnome-pilot using the configuration applet, and set the device name to whatever you used with pilot-xfer.
