Such critical fixes should go into Dapper's updates, not to another repo which not everyone know of.
No problem for me, I can add dapper-proposed to my repos. I worry about other users (Dapper is meant to be user friendly) and the perception of Ubuntu quality. IOTW: apps should not crash, and if they happen to, a fix should be commited in a way so that as many users as possible will be able to fetch the fix.
