I have exactly the same problems with trackerd with hardy (and I used to have it in gutsy as well). Nothing changed with the upgrade. Every once in a while (let's say, once a week), trackerd starts eating all my memory and most of my CPU, Gnome becomes mostly unresponsive, and I have to switch to a console to kill it.
