(The absent shutdown dialog in hardy seemed to be result from disabled Power Manager (in gutsy the manager caused some extra wakeups for the notebook's processor so I had disabled it). After enabling the Power Manager the dialog box appears as it should. The main problem remains -- no powerdown at shutdown).
